Alcohol & Drug Policy

At work, every worker is dependent on his/her workmate being capable of performing their duties in a reliable way without being effected by alcohol or drugs. Both employers and employees have a responsibility to ensure that the adverse effects of alcohol and drugs are not allowed to create problems for other people.

  • No alcoholic beverages or drugs (other than prescribed medication) will be permitted to be carried or consumed by company employees while at work
  • Blayney Crane Services promotes a “0” tolerance to drugs and alcohol at work and will randomly conduct drug and alcohol tests on all its employees.
  • No alcohol or non prescribed drugs are to be consumed or used by any person while working or in attendance of any site.
  • No person is to drive, operate or instruct company vehicles, personnel or equipment while under the influence of alcohol or drugs (other than prescribed medication).
  • Persons driving, operating or conducting work in conjunction with any BCS work practice who are found to be under the influence of alcohol, any non-prescribed drug or any prescribed drug that has not been brought to the attention (verbal and written) of management shall be liable for any costs incurred in relation to any matter deemed his/her responsibility. 

Persons found in possession of or under the influence of alcohol or non prescribed drugs that cannot prove that their ability is not impaired will be dealt with under Blayney Crane Services’ disciplinary procedures and may be terminated in accordance with the company’s safety policy.

Blayney Crane Services is to be notified if any employee is taking prescribed medication which could have an adverse effect on his/her performance whilst carrying out their duties for Blayney Crane Services.

Alcohol & Drugs Policy Statement

The consumption of alcohol or drugs or any other substance that effects safe work or employees on construction sites (or affects the health and safety of other workers) is prohibited.

This policy must be clearly communicated on the commencement of any project.

  • Notification to all new starters of the No Drugs and Alcohol Policy during any induction process.
  • Reinforce with appropriate signage etc.

DRUGS & ALCOHOL SAFETY REHABILITATION PROGRAM

  1. PRINCIPLE
    It is recognised that Employees affected by alcohol, and / or drugs are a safety hazard to themselves and all other persons in the workplace. Employees will not be affected by or will not consume alcohol or drugs during the working day.
  2. PROGRAM FOCUS
    The following mechanisms are recognised as being relevant to the implementation of the Blayney Crane Services Drug and Alcohol Program:

    •    Site safety and the involvement of the Company occupational health and safety program committee
    •    Peer intervention and support
  3. WORKPLACE POLICY
    Outlined hereunder are the guidelines of the program.

    a) A person who is affected by drugs or alcohol will not be allowed to work until that person can work in a safe manner.

    b) The decision on a persons ability to work in a safe manner will be made by the Company Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator and Management, or on site, the site safety committee.

    c) There will be no payment of lost time to a person unable to work in a safe manner due to 3(a).

    d) If an Employee is affected as outlined in 3(a), he / she shall be given a written warning and made aware of the availability of treatment / counselling. If the Employee refuses help he / she may be transferred / dismissed the next time he / she is affected.

    e)  For the purpose of disciplinary action a warning shall be effective for a period of 12 months from the date of issue.
  4. IMPLEMENTATION
    To assist with the adoption and implementation with this policy the Company will:

    a) Clearly state its endorsement of the Blayney Crane Services Drug and Alcohol program and comply with it.

    b) Provide access to an agreed time and venue for a representative of the Blayney Crane Services Drug and Alcohol program to address a meeting of Employees to discuss and endorse the program.

    c) Authorise the attendance of appropriate Company personnel, eg, safety delegate / officer, safety committee members, Union delegate, consultative committee member(s) to the Blayney Crane Services Drug and Alcohol Safety in the Workplace training course.

    d) No Employee will consume drugs and / or alcohol during the working day inclusive of meal breaks.
